Fillings vary depending on the extent of the repair and which tooth we are filling.
You usually need them when your teeth are:
- sensitive to hot or cold temperatures
- Have holes or dark spots
- Cracked or broken
- Chipped or fractured.
Before the procedure, our team will use specialised pieces of equipment to remove any decay to make sure the area is clear. They can also use a local anaesthetic, if necessary, to make sure you are comfortable.
Once this is done, our dentists will prepare the space for the filling. Different types of fillings require different shapes to ensure they stay in place. We may also put in a base or a liner to protect the tooth’s pulp, where the nerves are.
Benefits of fillings are:
- Damage by dental cavities and decay is limited.
- Further damage to remaining tooth structure is stopped.
- Tooth function is restored.
- Nerve damage and tooth loss are prevented.
- Makes sure you have fresh breath by eliminating bacteria
